It would be great if it could run fully locally with loads of security around it so only you have access
That was a lot of fun.
If you haven’t tried it already, try his ‘create a password’ game.
it’s fun and infuriating

9·2 months agoIs it much easier than TrueNAS?
I went with TrueNAS because it’s open-source, and it’s been smooth sailing.
(I just use it as a NAS, nothing more)
I’d be curious to rewrite some of the malware we made in class and see if AVs would pick it up now.
Most of them didn’t make any network calls etc. they would just mess with your files and system Things like Set background to Justin-Bieber, play Justin-Bieber randomly, we were very mature
The best security is to limit your risk vector.
Like you said Anti-viruses aren’t some magic bullet, in university a bunch of us wrote Malware and wrecked each other’s lab computers or did things like having the whole Lab’s computers CD trays open at 10am every morning.
The AV didn’t pick up any of them and we barely knew what we were doing.
Afik, AV’s mostly scan for known threats

Perhaps add shapes? Like the PlayStation X O Square and Triangle

2·2 months agoI’m more than happy to share. If others didn’t share I wouldn’t have been able to do my hobby.
So basically I just kinda copied this:
https://www.darkrym.com/posts/2025/05/my-rack-setup-2020-extrusion-diy-mini-rack/The biggest difference is I used different corners, and I made mine a bit deeper (28cm total, so that it would fit a 30cm 3D printer bed)

4·2 months agoRight now the back is literally empty, I’m planning on moving all the power cords there soon.
The HDDs are plugged into the ODROID H4+ (the thing that looks like a PSU)
Check my linked post and you’ll see what I’m talking about

3·2 months agoOoof that is rough!!
If you can make your own like I did I would highly recommend it.
If you have the Alu tubing cut and threaded for you most of the work is done

1·2 months agoThe thing that looks like a PSU is actually a ODROID H4+ it has 4 SATA and power connectors, so I just power it from that.
It’s all in excruciating detail here: https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-h4-plus/
You can also have a look at my old post: https://piefed.social/post/1002037 that might give you a better idea.

5·2 months agoI’m pretty sure I can stand on it without issues, if I add some corner plates it would be even stronger.
But when in doubt you can always go for 3030 or 4040 which would be really strong, you can probably park a motorcycle on those

2·2 months agoBest you can so is test it for yourself.
I switched to Linux Mint in February and my 4070 has given me no issues.
I just had to set some configs in steam so that it defaults to using my 4070 and not my iGPU, and the rest just worked

This is so dumb wow.
Good luck out there in the dating pool if something like this will have you disqualify someone.
I’m sure there was people shouting that they refuse to date people who send emails instead of letters back in the day.
