over the years i’ve had trouble with the various app stores like Discover and Pop!_Shop which for me led to the use of the terminal. other than that there is the occasional permissions issue that may have a graphical solution but i’ve always used chown on the command line.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Installing Debian for the first time. Wish me luck!
4·5 months agoI had a fair amount of issues back in the day due to debian having limited support for newer hardware with proprietary drivers. I wouldnt be surprised if that still a thing given Debian’s modus operandi.

2·5 months agoI don’t have a fix per se but you might want to see if your Magic SysRq button works to force a reboot using Alt + SysRq + ‘b’. It’s surprisingly effective remaining useful during a lot of major glitches except during a full-on Kernel Panic.

9·5 months agoI’m not asian but that bsounds like a lot of what i’ve heard called Asian Guilt. I’ve heard American Asians get a lot of flak for not measuring up to the likes of Jonny Kim. --personally, i’m finding it easier to deal with familial disappointment while living an ethical life as oppose to living an unethical life while still dealing with familial disappointment because i’m not gonna measure up to someone elses standards. Anyways, be good to yourself, there’s no guarantee anyone else will. Have you gone for a walk lately?

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are some bare minimum concepts beginner Linux users should understand?
4·7 months agosu/sudo -Why you will need to use it and how not to use it.
-I still don’t think it’s wise to rely on the various stores like Discover or Pop!_Shop to do basic updates as they are bloated and slow to an alarming rate while running.
slow internet could make for a fun opportunity to play around with a text-based browser from the terminal like Lynx, w3m, and browsh.
So… I’ve spent more time than I care to admit attending University/College. I started out Undecided became a Science major then A Technology major before leaving with nothing to show for it. I’ve told myself for months now that the only way i’d ever go back was if I could be a Philosophy major.

FreecCAD just released it’s first full version and it’s a pain to use. Back in 2018 somebody said FOSS CAD software was at least ten years behind the big windows commercial software. I think now it’s about fifteen behind.
Thanks! I reallly enjoyed that video.
Rocks aren’t magic but if you dig into the subject you’ll find that rocks are incredibly diverse and form in a number of different ways. Many are also found located hundreds/thousands of miles away from where they were formed, meaning they somehow moved.

I spent my time fighting AppImages until Canonical started to force Snap on me. I hated Snap so bad it forced me to switch distros. Now I appreciate Flatpak as a result and I don’t find AppImages all that bad, either. Also, I haven’t found myself in dependency-hell nor have I crashed my distro from unofficial Repos in well over a decade.
-It’s a long way of saying It works for me and it’s not Snap.
