You can believe that an answer can be found scientifically. You can have faith that what you see with your eyes, and that what happens during experimentation is accurate and not a fluke or trick of some sort.
Just because religion dominates most belief, and there are strong religious groups that hold that belief and faith are binary with no wiggle room whatsoever does not mean that it’s the only way they can function. On can still test faith and belief without losing them, and changing those beliefs to what holds more truth.
Holding that that belief and faith have no part in science… is a belief in and of itself. A particularly contradictory one at that.
Ah, if it’s one of the definitions, it must be the only definition.
But hey, she listened. Thats something most never do.

It was mostly for the joke, as the scientific calculator answer is just the equation written with different notation.
Gotta change it to scientific

2·2 months agoIf there’s only ever one avenue of attack, sure. Your example posits that encryption is the only security layer that exists, which is laughable. Most security breaches happen at the personnel level, not the technical one.
A site does not “become facebook” just because it’s not 100% decentralized from every other possible service. Countless other factors go into it. Not the least of which is the nature of the people running it. If you run a service, and make it nigh impossible for a general public (your main market) to use because you fear it will become compromised, you are basically saying that you will compromise it otherwise, and probably shouldn’t be running that service.

6·2 months agoBut only accepting one possible alternative is an extreme. You can build in safeguards… but if they’re too rigorous you will drive away potential users. Much like with freedom and security, you need to middle ground between accessibility and defensibility.

The problem is that it’s rapidly shrinking in part because of their strategies and in part because they don’t call out the other party on their shit more often.

Compromise only works if everyone is willing to do it, otherwise it’s just retreat.
