It’s wild that you refer to the homophobic Christians as popular. In my highschool class there were like 2 people who were openly Christian and went to church. And they were actively debated whenever they opened their mouth about it. They had like 4 friends including each other and that would have dropped to one if they were mean to the one openly gay kid. That was 25 years ago.

I have (being a recent trans hatchling) had many male friends over the years, and 90% of those I consider good friends were either gay or later came out as trans. During my 20s I found myself drinking and smoking heavily in a desperate attempt to not be bored shitless by the company I kept. Men don’t really disgust me so much as bore me to tears.

Sometimes people hang out with bullies / engage in bullying because of their own trauma. Not an excuse of course, but it is common.

So, I always came out with the line: “I’m actually a hot lesbian trapped in the body of a lumberjack” as a sort of joke (or so I thought). I also pretty much only had bisexual girlfriends, which I put down to being more politically left leaning and not particularly masculine.

I have always had a sort of disconnect when it came to exclusively hetro women. I always saw them as “not for me, definitely not interested in me”. When they actually took the initiative, they seemed to expect me to behave in a way that I wasn’t at all comfortable with. I just put it down to being weird and awkward.

I always remember the south park episode where they get a hot lesbian teacher and all try to become lesbians. Cartman says " my grandfather was a lesbian, so that makes me a quarter lesbian". I take pride in knowing my own grandchildren will be able to use that line.

When I discovered I was trans. Because I didn’t stop being attracted to women.

You see, that’s a good reason to transition. Way less than half of all women find pre-transition me attractive.

The whole rest of the plot makes a lot more sense, knowing that it was written with a gay kid in mind.

Staying and fighting is all well and good, but we’re not talking about standing your ground in a home invasion we’re talking about 20 masked goons throwing you into the back of an unmarked van while you load groceries into your car.

Also I’m pretty sure the trump administration is hoping for 1 good armed resistance against them so they can declare a state of emergency and cancel elections.

I get that, but maybe they can find someone to hide them Anne Frank style? I’m just worried, because I see lots of posts of people complaining about the dysphoria aspect of not being able to change gender markers on their documents, rather than asking if there’s anyone prepared to smuggle them into Mexico. I just don’t think people are taking it as seriously as they should be.

The problem is that people have to be in immediate danger to be eligible for asylum, and by the time they will be considered to be in immediate danger, the camps will already be full. Getting out now is really the best option.
