Maybe it’s because the politicians have also lost all sense of shame.

What I’m going to say may sound extremely shocking to some folks, but I will say it anyway.

By global standards, Australian politicians are actually pretty decent. Government services work. There are no mass shootings. There is clean water. When you order food, you don’t get food poisoning. There are basic labor rights. You don’t get beaten or arrested simply for criticizing politicians. When you go to the hospital, you find doctors and nurses. Roads are pretty safe. People just don’t know how rare this is.

It’s just that many Australians consume rage-baiting social media accounts and raige-baiting Murdoch media all day long.

If you think Australian politicians are truly evil, you really should spend some time in India, Russia, Brazil or Lebanon. You will come back and think politicians in Australia are angels.

Even assuming you hate them, violence and threats aren’t the way to go. Fearless psychos aren’t afraid of violence. Violence just ensures that ordinary decent people don’t want to run for office.

what the commenter means is the Australian government didn’t shoot or hang 37,000 dissenters in January like Iran did.

The price of freedom I eternal vigilance.

There are lots of Australian cases where politicians are downright criminal.

We need to have protections in place to stop our Polies emulating the like of Indian Russia, Brazil and Lebanon. Those protections need to be enforced, so the don’t emulate the US.

Oh, I completely agree: violence is never acceptable against politicians. Well, Putin aside. But my fundamental point remains: politicians have lost all sense of shame. When you think back to the Profumo affair, or even Nixon, politicians used to resign when caught out. They were held to a high standard as representatives of the people. These days they won’t resign unless forced after weeks.

You’re replying to their comment about Australian politics compared to other countries to make a point about the shame of Australia politicians by using an example from British politics and another from US politics? Somehow I still can’t tell if this is a deliberate troll

Nope. I genuinely believe most major party (democratic?) politicians are about the same.
