    [On-topic] Zip drives were awful, it’s just they were the least awful storage solution of those times. So they were quickly forgotten once CD-Rs popped up — faster, cheaper, and more importantly bigger. The text mentions reliability, it likely played a huge role too, even if I do remember my CDs getting holes over time.

    [Off-topic] *Sigh* incidentally this reminds me I need some better bulk storage for my home network. Planning to buy a new HDD; I tend to overthink this sort of stuff, but aiming for 6TB, found one for just 1400 reals (roughly 240 euro). Already enough to gather my anime series.
