England has been overtaken as Australia’s top overseas country of origin for the first time since records began.
People born in India made up the largest proportion of those born overseas for the first time on record, narrowly edging out English-born residents in 2025.

A lot of that would be attributed to the 1945–1959 “Populate or Perish” English-born generation dying out. Kind of the last England-first migration policy before Australia really flipped and now has a very rewarding culture for it.
I have three Indian and one Bangladeshi mate who have recently become citizens there and they love it. Also three US, one Polish, and one Vietnamese doing the same. I’m here right now but my heart is still elsewhere for now. I’ll be back and do the same one day.
Keep those One Nation fuckers out for me, Aussies!
One Nation has dialled it down a bit and are now going to be our second if not third party.
Interestingly Indians, as a cohort, are “spiritually conservative voters”… as in they might be progressive young professionals today, but are very likely to be the conservative voters of tomorrow.
Honestly its a bit nuts that liberals, nationals, and one nation haven’t realised that winning the Indian community is the best path to forming government.
