    Jenkinson appealed against the decision in Queensland’s civil and administrative tribunal, claiming he was non-violent and “entitled to his political beliefs”.

    Nope. You apply for a gun license and the states grants it to you only when you pass the required checks, including stating you are sound of mind (and don’t have any significant mental illness) and don’t have a criminal conviction. If you can’t show the state this, the state decides you are not capable of owning a gun or it’s not appropriate for you to own a gun; they don’t grant you a license. This isn’t America (thank fuck).

    We had some property owner (we require access to private property occasionally which is notified and organised appropriately) threaten to shoot one of our staff. He was surprised when police turned up and seized his firearms. He then had the audacity to call us up bitching asking us to tell the police to give his guns back. You have to state specific reason(s) for why you should have a firearm on your application, of which there is only a few valid criteria. Surprisingly, shooting people is not one of them.
