Need more LAN multiplayer games! Hope this will be one of the results of “stop killing games” initiativ 🤞🏻

Such great memories of my friends lugging over their huge CRTs and computer towers to play the original Unreal Tournament over the LAN my dad had set up with ports in the walls of nearly every room (he worked for Cisco during the dot com boom). We of course also played Quake, Duke Nukem, Starcraft, and Diablo over that LAN as well, but UT will always have a special place in my heart. They were some of the best of times, right up there with the most epic board game nights I’ve ever hosted.

I still do 2-3 small ones (20-30 attendees) and a large one (ca. 2000 attendees) every year. Love it, escaping reality for 3-4 days into a world that is its own microcosm is relaxing and fun. Meeting people, trying new fun games, playing classics and trying to sleep as little as possible to experience as much as I can while playing competitive CS at 3 in the morning and hitting nothing whit my sleep deprived brain is fun.

Will do this as long as I can, hopefully well into retirement.

You see me now a veteran of a thousand LAN wars. Been living on the edge so long, where the winds of no-cd exe’s roar.

Mine was the house where we met. We did it for the social aspects and had tons of fun gaming. It involved food, drink and lots of smack-talk. I had eight gaming peeceez in various states of “at the ready”, but when systems got small they brought their own. The ancient IBM P200 20” CRTs over time were eventually replaced with 30” LCDs. The plastic tables still have the P200 dents so the LCDs needed shimmed to be level. Fun stuff.

That’s all memories now. Still have some systems but life has overtaken me and everyone else these days. Such is life.

in 2007 i was still in HS. anybody who has a laptop would bring them to school and we would have dota tournament. this occur weekly
