    The report notes almost six in 10 sexual assaults recorded by police occurred outside family and intimate partner relationships.

    This underlined a “distinct national problem, not simply an extension of domestic and family violence”.

    And we like to think that Australia is a safe place.

    I’m skeptical. It’s easy to expand the definition of sexual violence to push up the numbers in support of more Draconian laws. I suspect that is a big part of what has happened here.

    I don’t trust politicians, especially around this subject. They know it’s a hot button and they can get laws passed to “save the women and children”, that would never pass otherwise. Are they above lying, or fudging the numbers to get the public to sign off? We all know the answer to that is “no”.
