Researcher broke a test tube. Seems like the standard protocols were followed afterwards, they were isolated and contracted the disease. For extra caution all individuals that made contact with them since have been placed in isolation to avoid spreading the disease.

It’s times like this that I actually have to think “well, fuck, I’m glad it was Russia.” If this was the US we might have some person screaming about a “plague party” and inviting all their friends to help spread it.

Seems like a pretty bad standard protocol for a woman working in an infectious disease lab to get sick after admitting to breaking a test tube with live bacteria, and then be sent to a public hospital. According to the article, half of the 200 people under observation were only exposed at the hospital.

I’m saying it seems like typical “shit happened” and the usual low level people trying to cover their ass resulted in a lack of initial containment. But, the correct protocols fell in place once the level of exposure and risk was assessed.

I’m not saying Russia is good. I’m just saying that the multiple news organizations covering this are banking in “Russia bad” and “lab leak” shit really hard. Russia is bad. But, they aren’t trying to purposely spread a plague in Russia. Russia “being bad” doesn’t mean that they have a comic book villain style lack of self preservation of their own society.
