If you don’t know what the “Knights of New” was, it was a community moniker for redditors who voluntarily set their default view to all+new, and aggressively down voted poor quality posts across the whole ecosystem. This, I believe, was a big part of what made reddit great so many years ago, and I have noticed the lack of such a named effort happening on Lemmy, though I know there are already some out there who brave the swamp.
Its also my belief that a coordinated effort to simply give folks the idea of being the tip of the spear when it comes to posts, by creating a simple community with information about things like media literacy, good universal standards, or being discerning would be tremendously helpful.
Obviously I could just create the community myself, but I’m curious if folks think its worth the effort.
Guess I can’t say for sure it needs adjustment, but I wish posts with more than 2 or 3 downvotes got pushed away from feeds faster.
Seems like I’ll pretty commonly still see already downvoted slop or botspam posts run across my Hot or Scaled feeds just because they’re new.
Meanwhile on Reddit, unless I was in a specific community, fels like I’d rarely see posts with neutral or negative crowd votes unless I sorted by new.
I thought everybody already was reading New.
I didn’t think we had enough posts to have other modes
I prefer Scaled usually as it shows more posts from smaller communities. Active only pulls posts that have been around for a day or two with lots of comments while Hot stays rather static through the day ime.
I’m interested in joining a community with that focus, though I don’t want to create it myself. I’ve got enough comms to mod right now.
I would totally take on browsing on all+new as a task - I already do this from time to time anyway :)
