Don’t think for a second that firies are intelligent
I’m ex-emergency services
There are some good, intelligent firies out there
Most are fucking meat-heads, simple people who like the excitement and the fact that women tend to adore them
There’s a lot of hyper-masculinle homophobia and ignorance, loads of racism, and an incredible amount of chauvinism
You can be angry but this is just being a stupid cunt.
I think it might just be a product of feeling alienated, and overlooked by other parties:
In a statement released on Thursday, the UFU said it is not yet endorsing any specific alternative party but “will say more once those parties have announced their own policies.” Marshall said the union had approached all parties, and of the responses it received, “One Nation’s is the most detailed and profound.”
Marshall suggested this is likely to mean support for One Nation, challenging Labor in its regional city seats and outer suburban Melbourne seats, and the left-wing Greens.
“One Nation has promised a significant rolling replacement program for fire appliances, the Liberals haven’t announced their policy, and we’re talking to the Greens — who are about community protection as well,” he said.
“[One Nation’s Victorian leader] Warren Pickering has made some significant statements about firefighter safety — and we support those who support us.”
I think One Nation are shit, but they’re tactically shit. I suspect their tactic is to make a minimum amount of competent promises to a minimum amount of voting blocks (less people to please). Just enough to appear like the better choice (for those voting blocks). Sadly I think this will work in lots of places.
That is historically what they do, lie, then vote opposing to the lie. They’ll try for killing Blackburn’s, too, I bet, because of the rumour it has something to do with first nations people. Whoever the dickhead was who suggested one nation are ok, needs to look at their policy and voting history.
On the one hand I get where the firefighters are coming from… On the other hand if they think one nation would piss on them if they were on fire…
This is the problem with having a duopoly and a bunch of racist fascist who people think are the third choice. The Liberals don’t give a fuck, PHONeys will give a fuck right up until Gina tells them not to then they will turn tail and bolt, if Labor aren’t going to do the right thing then no one with any clout will.
They should probably endorse the Greens, but they won’t cause all the true blue Stralyans would rather die than vote for a bunch of filthy hippies, regardless of how much they agree with them. Greens are usually to dysfunctional to do much damage, at least if the Tasmanian ones are any indication of nationwide calibre.
I’m shocked more people don’t show some preference for the Greens.
The average normie would rather pay a slick-talking conman to take them for a ride than put themselves at risk of committing to an idealistic struggle, and possibly turning into the kind of shabby, funny-smelling buffoon they are used to jeering at. That’s why everyone’s wading through slop and spam on Instagram and Facebook and wouldn’t set foot on Mastodon in a million years, or getting excited about AI-slop mockups of Adobe alternatives that might not work but at least don’t stink of open-source software, or conceding that it may be time to give fascism another try, if the only alternative is those awful over-earnest lefty ratbags.
It can be fucking scary how short-sighted the average person can be. I had a discussion with someone recently who lambasted me because I told him that Tasmania shouldn’t be spending multiple billion dollars on a stupid sports stadium when we are struggling to afford critical improvements to our education and health systems.
His response, "My kids grown up and I don’t get sick. I’d rather watch the Footy than waste money improving our hospital. "
So we will get a white elephant stadium that he will likely outlive, before he winds up in a shitty underfunded aged care facility, with a skeleton crew for staffing because Tasmania is suffering a critical shortage of young people have left for a more prosperous state, bitching about how he deserves better while actively voting against anyone that might give that to him.
This is why “centrism” and the Labor Party chasing centrist voters is a scourge and the Labor party should be abandoned.
This just fits in to my view that the only way to fight Liberal and One Nation is to go further left and actually make peoples lives better by providing public services, nationalise natural resource extraction, increase company and wealth taxes, and, not capitulate to the right wing rhetoric.
Instead Labor go after competing unions (RAFFWU), put funding into and lend credence to the nonsense that is “tough on crime”, don’t fund our schools and hospitals properly even after relentless campaigning by the unions. They are demolishing our public housing and replacing it with community housing (often fewer units) and selling off the rest as private dwellings - literally selling of public land and assets…
And they have no counter to people complaining about the debt because a number of the projects are dumb, and frankly corrupt (Transurban no-bid contract). Big road projects really should be a thing of the past, we have enough roads, to make them work better we need more public transport, so that commercial and emergency vehicles and transport for disability don’t have to compete with people who could take PT. No, Metro Tunnel, SRL, and especially the LXRP which is a project for road users, is not enough. The PTUA have a great list of things they ought to have done https://ptua.org.au/advocacy/)
They allow the dismantling of Cohealth, and don’t bother stepping in to bring it back under community control when the board pilfer the rescue package https://archive.li/2026.10.06-193602/https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/cohealth-splurged-on-a-recruiter-then-it-chose-an-internal-applicant-20261007-p612gz.html, because the Labor party are not for public health, they think the current private subsidy system of Medicare is good.
The Labor party hasn’t been the party of the working class for a long time, and are directly responsible for the death of membership in our unions via the Accords in the 80s.
We need to rebuild the left in this country, and the only party doing that is the Socialists (and to an extent, the Greens, but they’re pro-capitalism, which is why we’re in this mess to begin with)
In conclusion, this is the Labor Party’s fault, but the UFU is still very silly for essentially endorsing the LNP and One Nation above the Labor Party by saying they should be last.
If any of what I’ve said is convincing to you, I encourage you to get involved:
