The Government has announced it will provide funding for a commuter rail trial in Christchurch, while also establishing the Mainlander train between Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill as a regular service.

A step in the right direction, I think.

    Woah that’s actually awesome. A rail trip that cuts a 50 minute road trip to 20 mins by rail? Intercity services between Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill and in-between places? The whole pilot costing only $3.4m, half paid for by local councils? Can we get more of these projects!
