Yes, why aren’t our govts taxing Fb and so many other giant corporations and industries? I’m no economist but it just seems like lack of duty of care towards the Australian people. Instead, hit the masses with more interest rate rises.

We need to change the system.

It’s the downside of the global economy. Facebook will be headquartered somewhere with low corporate tax.

‘Oh yes, we made a Billion dollars revenue in Australia, but after we pay all our licensing fees and stuff to our parent company, it turns out we didn’t make any profits 🤷’

Many companies so this. I’d love to see a study on how much tax revenue we lose to this practice, then compare that figure to the sorts of stuff we could buy with it like free universities etc.

On interest rates, the government doesn’t control that. The Reserve Bank is independent to the government. Rates are tied to inflation though - which the government can influence somewhat. It’s a tangle, but as someone wanting house prices to come down, I’m not against the rate rises.

But the rate rises mean that you pay more on your loan, doesn’t it? Anyway, you know your own financial situation and i hope you find the home that’s right for you and your family.

There’ll be a window where rates come down and houses are still low (at least compared to now). I’m hoping we are ready to buy a house in that window.

Important topic, but sigh… You can be a journalist or you can be a slop-merchant.

    Pick one.

I’m deeply disappointed by this - it is absolutely the most unreadable piece of slop I’ve attempted to read so far, and only because resisting Facebook has been the hill I will die on.

But resisting slop is my new hill.

The internet is basically eating itself at this point.
