    You never “do your own research”. You trust the experts and listen to them.

      As anyone in science will tell you, doing research is basically 99.9% trusting experts, and 0.1% doing something new.

      Doing your own research involves trusting experts, but if the findings are easy to verify, like looking up number of open positions to students ratio, then it’s a good idea to just check.
