I’m not 100% sure, there might be a bit of overlap between them but I’ve never personally had any trouble running them side-by-side.

And yeah I love wobbly windows. I’m so used to them now that if I have to use Windows or something with non-wobbly windows it feels wrong now lol.

Oh yeah, another one I’ve recently discovered that looks interesting is Quickshell. I haven’t used it much yet though, I made a semi-functional panel with it and that’s as far as I got. But it looks like you can do a lot with it once you get the hang of it.

I have a bunch in my KDE:

• Karousel for arranging windows

• Klassy for window decorations/general theming

• Panel Colorizer for customizing the panel/dock

• Kvantum for general theming

• And then a few general things like Wobbly Windows etc.

I use Filen, I don’t know if they still do it but you used to be able to buy a lifetime plan for a one-time fee that was like 50-100GB or something like that, and you could stack them. So I just bought several during a Black Friday sale.

Yep! According to their site it sounds like it can run at up to 60Hz and there’s a video of it playing a YouTube video pretty smoothly, albeit in monochrome.

I like using qemu with quickget personally for quickly setting up VMs. You can literally just be like quickget ubuntu 24.04 or whatever and it’ll do all the setup for you.

It can do Mac and Windows VMs too, but they take a little bit of fiddling.

Humanity’s relationship with producing energy continually blows my mind, and it’s one of the main things that makes me think that maybe we do live in a simulation.

We discovered fossil fuel energy, which was fine for a bit to kick off the industrial revolution, but obviously is super harmful in the long term. Then just as it was starting to become a problem, the universe went “okay, here’s this magic rock that just gives off energy, you can use that to generate massive amounts of power with no carbon.” And we just went “nah.”

So then, the universe is like, “alright then, how about this: you can just get it from the sun, the air and water. Again no carbon and it’s infinite free energy forever, you’re welcome.” And again, we were like “no we want to just burn fossils.” Even now at the ecosystem is visibly collapsing around us we’re adopting it somewhat, but still dragging ass on it like crazy.

It’s like whoever’s running the simulation keeps dropping the difficulty level to help us not die, and we just won’t accept it. I fully expect in the next century or so we’ll figure out cold fusion, build like two plants and humanity will just collectively go “BORING” and dig up more coal again.

Oh sorry! In Linux there are different ways of formatting your drives, kind of like FAT32 and NTFS in Windows, if you’re familiar with those? Anyway, ext4 is like the old reliable in Linux, and btrfs is the newer one which I think is the default on some distros now.

Anyway, if you open up Konsole and type lsblk -f it should tell you which one you have. I don’t think you can change it without reformatting and starting over though.

There’s a preview version of union in Plasma 6.7 I believe, although it’s a bit bare-bones IIRC.

Are you using btrfs by any chance? I think copy-on-write can sometimes cause delays in Dolphin. Mine doesn’t always update the free disk space right away when I delete a file, for example.

I always felt like Canonical had a big problem with going all-in on something they thought was neat (the Unity desktop, Mir, that thing where phones and desktops were supposed to merge, now Snaps) and letting everything else stagnate, then getting the thing they were working on to the point where it was almost good, then dumping it and going after the next shiny thing.

But yeah these days I think things like Pop!OS and Mint are better Ubuntus than Ubuntu is.

I think one of the main hurdles for Linux is having to break habits and do things differently, and occasionally just accepting that there are some things you can’t do (like playing games that have certain anti-cheat things enabled etc.) As well as the occasional “well I could probably make this work eventually, but is it worth the effort?” kind of situation.

There’s nothing especially I miss from Windows, although I’ve been mostly Linux for 15+ years now so Windows is the other, weird OS to me these days lol

Good. As a European person using Linux in Canada, I refuse to engage with any extra nonsense on my computer just because some American states are being idiotic. Even if it’s just one extra click, I’m not doing it just because California says I should. Get fucked

I use a yubikey on my laptop, but I use it to make it even harder to log in. It’s set to challenge-response so you have to have the key in and enter a password to unlock LUKS. Bit overkill but it was more just to see if I could do it lol

For the life of me I can’t remember how we got to the subject, but once we were talking about attaching speakers to a dog and I called it “Dolby Surround Hound.” I was very proud of that one and it went completely unacknowledged.

It’s like magic too, because any new weird kind of package manager I add, it’s just picks it up and starts updating it. It can even update Windows apparently.
