Even the most strict authoritarian states aren’t monocultural. Whenever two or more people get together, shit happens. There’s nothing wrong with criticising cultural elements that are obviously harmful (like mutilating childrens genitalia to mark them as followers of an ancient semitic bronze age storm god for example), but disregarding “other” culture as a whole is just uninformed.

If anyone here is a practicing Catholic, I hope you are aware that help is available. Decoupling from an abusive family and a cult is very hard, but there are professionals specialising in just that.
