Seems to be closed source, no mention of encryption for messages sent. Any development revolves around their APi which they can change at will.

Bought an Asus TUF laptop back in 2020? Maybe 2021, had a Ryzen 3750H and a 1660ti, at first it was great and was an improvement from my previous laptop but unfortunately barely lasted a year before the fan bearings started to give out and made terrible sounds, even after replacing the fans they barely lasted a month before going back to the horrid noises.

The thing struggles to keep itself cool and now has a power problem where it wants as much juice as possible. Doesn’t matter if it’s running Debian or Windows it was horrible to do literally anything without getting frustrated.

Eventually upgraded and gave it to a buddy who didn’t have a computer, thing still sucks as a daily driver and I definitely wouldn’t trust it in a server environment. The sounds of those fans still haunt me to this day.

If you really need to expose something to the internet set yourself up an SSO/OIDC provider and have it sit in front of the service and have a deny-first policy in place, whitelist the known few IP’s that need to connect regularly or alternatively geoblock.

Also suggest setting up some security headers, however headers can be confusing for beginners.

Virtualize or containerize everything.

I can see the appeal of downloading YouTube content opposed to streaming, however if folks are looking to stream I would suggest Invidious + Freetube.
