I’m pretty new to the whole Linux thing as well and personally, I’ve been liking ZorinOS much better than Mint. Mostly just because it’s prettier, everything else works just as well haha

Installing one distro on one laptop and then only using that laptop to figure out how to install the next distro on the other laptop! That would give me an actual goal in each distro I install too, since I’d have to get the wifi and browser working and figure out how to run that program that burns iso files onto a usb stick :0

I actually have tried it on the bigger laptop by now and somehow Bazzite runs Sekiro more smoothly than my “Gaming” Lenovo Legion Y530 that has an actual GPU and is from around the same time ever did. 🫣 It was completely unplayable on my other Laptop… which makes me think that maybe I misconfigured it to not actually use the GPU back in the day??? I’ll have to experiment with that a bit more haha

It’s not that Hamburg doesn’t have public toilets, but Hamburg is known for the “Reeperbahn” - a street lined with bars (I think the American equivalent to it would be something like Bourbon Street in New Orleans?). People go there to get wasted off their asses and no matter how many public restrooms you put up there, they will piss wherever.

(There’s also an amazing documentary series about the Supermarket on that street and the characters that visit it)

They’re like 1/3 neck 2/3 torso! You can actually kinda see where the neck turns into the torso because of the difference in thickness, I marked it with a green arrow here:

It’s a lot easier to see in person though since the chest moves when they breathe so you can be sure that’s where the lungs start.

I thiiiink the thing with UX is that they consider overall usability and click paths, while UI is more down in the reeds and looks at more specific things like alignment, design language and color choices. The line between seems pretty blurry though, and how it works in practice probably differs widely between companies.

A good UX/UI team can make or break a project. As a Frontend-focused software dev, that kinda hurts admitting. It’s just always very frustrating to deal with them, because designers are specialized in design. So they neither know about technical limitations that make trivial seeming things hard (like conditionally changing a buttons color based on server state) but they also don’t know about technical “freebies” that the libraries we use give us (like just telling a component that they can overflow and render things wherever you want in ways that Figma would never allow you to design). So talking to them is hard, which leads to a spiral of never talking to them, fucking up the UX, and then dodging them while they try to get the UX fixed. That just sucks for everyone involved.

Hating the Design Team is apparently such a universal experience that Josh W Comeau has a great article on it. Really worth the 15min read, if you want to improve your relationship with the design team!

Software devs also hate UX/UI Designers.
And Product Owners.
And Scrum Masters.
And Software Architects.
And Security/Compliance Managers.
And QA Testers.

Using AI to write Unit tests is one of the few use cases I somewhat understand, but even that turns out horrible with improper supervision. I reviewed one Pull Request once where the testing was so horribly cobbled together and nonsensical that I rewrote those tests by hand (after asking the person I was reviewing to fix it twice and them only making it worse by letting their AI rewrite them)

I just kinda assumed we’re all programmers here tbh. Maybe the occasional engineer too.
