St. George must shell out big bucks to the Southern Utah Drag Stars.
A federal judge in St. George, Utah has ordered the city to pay a group of drag performers $350,000 to cover their attorneys’ fees after previously ruling in their favor in a First Amendment case.
…
The entertainment group and its CEO, Mitski Avalox, initially sued the city with the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah after being denied event permits in 2023. The initial lawsuit argued that St. George’s denial of a permit to put on an all-ages drag show in a city-owned public park violated the group’s First Amendment rights in a “flagrant and ongoing violation of their free speech, due process, and equal protection rights,” per the Associated Press.
