I love potato salad
That’s Olivier salad, which is basically Russian potato salad, so you are in the right place!
This is a table my 80-year-old mom and her best friend put together for New Year’s in Russia. They got really close after they both lost most of their friends over their anti-war stance. So they really treasure each other’s company.
On the left, on the two plates is Olivier salad also known Russian salad.
Right in between those plates is smoked salmon.
Above the salmon is pickles and sliced cheese.
To the right of the cheese is seledka pod shuboi (herring under fur coat), which is basically fermented herring under some beets and mayo.
Below that is some veggies, white bread, and rye bread.
On the right is a bowl with more Olivier salad.
Drinks are “mors” in big glasses and wine or port in small glasses. More on mors: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mors_(drink)
That mors sounds delicious. And it looks like the smoked salmon is thicker than you see here in the States.

What’s the reddish purplish dish in the top right?
It’s “Seledka pod shuboi” or “herring under a fur coat.” Basically herring under some beets and mayo.

I was going to say, my only regret is that now when I google “herring in a fur coat,” all I get is salad pics and not actual herrings in fur coats.

The wine glasses look rather small?Those are glasses my mom usually uses for port. It could be either wine or port in them… my mom and her friend are in their 80s and don’t drink much, so they could be using the smaller glasses for wine. I’ll be happy to ask her.
