lol what is that going to accomplish? make people try yet again? i grew up with the originals in the 70s/80s. between my sister and i we had most of the toys, action figures, the AT-AT, the falcon, the jabba throne, and on and on. we also got the yoda shampoo, the C3PO breakfast cereal, t-shirts, bedsheets–all of it.
after the gigantic colossal let-down of the prequels after waiting for them for ~20 years, and THEN the somehow even fucking worse sequels…i for one am done. not wasting any more time on something that they can only be actively trying to make worse with every release
Which Zahn books? The Heir to the Empire or the newer Thrawn trilogy? I love both, and I feel like they’ve done an incredible job with Rebels, Ahsoka, Mandalorian… really all of the tv shows (though I haven’t watched Maul yet). I would love for them to continue telling these stories and have the original characters just show up where it makes sense… like Luke coming to collect Grogu for training. Maybe have Han and Chewy running a cantina left to him by Lando. Ewoks starting the process of joining the New Republic and electing representatives. And Wedge… well, he had enough of war and no one has heard from him in many years.
They don’t need to keep telling stories about Luke… the remarkable part of his life happened when he was young, now he’s doing the boring and difficult work of rebuilding the Jedi Order. There’s no exciting story there, but he can be in the background of other characters who are doing remarkable things.
Either way would have been a financial drop in the bucket to purchase those rights or threaten legal ownership because they bought star wars through Lucas. Either way Disney fumbled hard on a possible billion dollar property that proves capitalist can’t even capitalism properly.
They did, they got everything, when Lucas sold out to the ‘white slavers’.
Which is why they intially declared nearly all EU stuff to be non canon (‘Legends’), and then started making bit and pieces of them canon, by piecemeal making media with many of the characters and concepts and half plot arcs and beats from them, into various parts of their movies and shows.
George had been very careful to run everything through Lucasfilm.
They even got Zahn to come back and write new Thrawn and Ashoka books, to try to make those characters make more sense with the new canon.
It really was as simple as “Kathleen Kennedy decided she knew best, fucked up continuously and broke everything, pretended the entire time she did everything on purpose.”
Have you watched Andor, The Mandalorian, Ahsoka or (to a lesser extent), book of boba fett and obi-wan kenobi? In my opinion, they were all vastly superior to the sequels. Rogue one was one of the only Disney movies that was also very good and tied into Andor. Disney did the series right, but completely fucked the dog on most of the movies. I didn’t really care for the Acolyte, but a good amount of their TV series’ have been phenomenal.

All they had to do was follow Timothy’s Zahn’s books and make those canon.
I don’t understand why or how they fucked that up. It would have been easy big money for them.

IMO they should have made the expanded universe for the adult fans and done their own thing for the PG fanbase.
I wonder if they even had to purchase the film rights to those books separately, or if they came included in the deal.

They… they got all of Lucasfilm.
Thats literally all StarWars IP, up to 2014.
