Access to emergency housing is becoming increasingly restricted, with a 386% rise since August 2024 in Ministry of Social Development (MSD) rejections citing that people had ‘contributed to their own homelessness’.

Government rejections are up 386% since August 24; because they are arseholes…homelessness itself is not up by that much.
Don’t sensationalise; the headline numbers are bad enough without trying to make it sound worse.

There are 57,000 women who are homeless; or in housing that is not much better. Couch surfing; garages; substandard housing or even “uninhabitable” housing. There are 33,000 kids in the same situation with these women.
