Since late 2025, malware has been spreading rapidly through the Steam Workshop. In most cases, we caught old, familiar threats such as DarkKomet, the Lumma and Vidar infostealers.

    This isn’t steam wallpapers, it’s Windows wallpapers for the Wallpaper Engine application distributed via Steam Workshop.

      Yeah, I used to use it a long time ago when I was still on windows (supposedly it also works on Linux though).

      Iirc you can distribute wallpapers on wallpaper engine as arbitrary JavaScript or just an executable, so this news doesn’t surprise me at all.

        Yeah, it’s the ‘Application’ wallpapers which are the attack vector here.

        Hardly surprising that malware peeps would be all over it
