Things done wrong:
- Relying on “trust”.
- Centralisation / private control.
- Not curbing down shitty behaviour as soon as apparent.
- Either the community is not aware of what’s considered acceptable behaviour, or can’t be arsed to denounce unacceptable behaviour.
- Not determining a member of the community has a negative impact on it and getting rid of them; instead doing things half-arsed, like just “kicked him out of one of the chat”.
Things done right:
- Transparently telling the community what happened.
Overall this doesn’t sound too bad. I hope the team is able to revert the damage.
Seems like mumble is a sketchy project, too.
What? Why?
You think I’m overreacting?
Davide Beatrici, known for his work on the instant messaging app Mumble, joined our distribution some time ago. […] In protest, two people left the distribution, including Davide, a friend of the attacker. […] This infuriated Davide so much that, abusing of the administrative privileges he still had, he sabotaged the distribution today in the early morning hours.
Not a good look IMO.
It can be whatever look, I don’t even know any details except what r*ssian distribution says, but he had made 4 commits to mumble in 12 months.
