I wonder what sort of good faith arguments one could make in favor of Flock. It’d be one thing if it was effective and worked properly, but it seems like it doesn’t.
One could argue that these cases are rare, but frankly, image recognition technology has improved so much over the past several years that it’s actually hard to understand why Flock tech makes as many mistakes as it does.
The error rates were shockingly high not long ago. That never discouraged many politicians. It’s still a recurring argument against these systems. I don’t think much has changed in them. I don’t see any incentive for these companies to improve either. Once they secure the contracts, they’ll just say that AI made an oopsie.
I’ve heard rumors that Axon is pouncing on Flock’s bad PR and wants to take a chunk out of their business. A few towns have already switched from Flock to Axon.
Flock’s tech is more advanced than most other technologies out there, which is why it’s sparked so much concern. If Axon can demonstrate that they’re better, though, localities will go with them instead.
