          both very unassuming, and seldom seen.

          You might see fernbirds, but will more often just hear a double tick-tick-tick-chirp

          Australasian bittern, good luck see one of them. If you are very lucky you might just hear one ‘booming’ with a himpf-himpf call

            Well if seldom seen is the criteria, why not Fairy tern? only 40 left, and they are sea birds, so not many chances to see one!

      When our girls were little I tried as I much as I could to convince them that sea gulls were sandfly because they lived on the sand and could fly
