Sadly Jackie has betrayed the people of Hong Kong. In 2009 he stated “I’m not sure if it’s good to have freedom or not.”. He also said he was “beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled.”

Jackie Chan is not only pro CCP. He also admitted in his book that he threw his toddler son across a room. He is also a deadbeat dad and refuses to acknowledge his lesbian daughter and let her mom to raise her w/o any of his help. People in Hong Kong already know what a POS this guy is, I wish the Western world would catch up already

I remember how a giant stink was made when the information was made public, then virtually nothing happened.

So many people seem to think that. Just because you did not notice does not mean nothing happened. Just three examples:

        • Iceland’s PM resigned in 2016 after leaks showed his family’s offshore holdings tied to failed bank bailouts
        • Pakistan’s PM Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court in 2017, then banned from politics for life in 2018
        • ~$1.3–2 billion recovered in back taxes/penalties globally, and law firm Mossack Fonseca shut down with its founders jailed for months

A lot has changed (read: improved) in the CCP since 1989.

Regardless… Given my own country’s precipitous descent into full-on fascism, I’m not going to begrudge Chinese-born celebrities for doing PR for their homeland. Sorry, just don’t really care.

Yep, he’s changed his tune significantly. There’s accusations of them getting leverage on him through his family, but his own personal convictions outside geopolitics are also pretty reprehensible in recent years, so either the CCP hand is so far up his ass we can’t see the elbow anymore, or he’s changed.

Wait, if that’s true and why he’s said pro ccp bs then I feel like he’s being judged too harshly.

Most people here don’t understand what it’s like to live under such governments. Sometimes you really have no choice. I don’t know about chan, but it might be the case.

If he’s that rich and famous then why couldn’t he just get his family out of the country?

I mean I know the CCP polices the Chinese diaspora worldwide, but it would at least be somewhat better to be outside their legal jurisdiction…

When it’s financially beneficial to support the current regime, it’s normal to have celebrities singing the same tune, more so for the one that will prosecute for speaking out.
