Can we just forbid every public school and after school activity using facebook for communication and shutting out parents who refuse to use Meta. Why the fuck do we pretend we don’t approve of Meta’s business while everyone, government funded organisations included tries to force us to use their shit products.

Instead everyone’s position seems to be that they are addicted to heroin and don’t want to try and get off it so we are going to let the supplier give us oxycontin instead on their claim it is less harmful. WTF! Their entire business model is based on keeping people engaged in their product for unhealthy amounts of time and forcing other people onto the same product. It is a business built on social harm that can’t survive without it.

That would be amazing, as a parent you simply cannot go without WhatsApp unfortunately. All events around schools are setup around it 😔.

Uh yeah, it’s humans doing it using addictive design features. The design features are just a force multiplier for the intent to harm that flows from Zuckerberg through the rest of the organisation.

Hopefully the new Algorithm laws come out soon. Hopefully they become distracted by one or the other to be successful.

I think the Algorithm laws would be a bigger win for society. The right for self-determinism would be a great boon for individuals who don’t want to be bombarded with GenBS or force-fed garbage.

The business model is keeping people online and engaged as much as possible to sell targetted marketing. You take away the engagement and impressions and revenue goes down. Every form of regulation will be subverted with malicious compliance and nothing will change because the only alternative is to take a massive reduction in profits. These foreign companies have too much power, no respect for our society, and people are unwilling to change their habits.

It doesn’t take much to break their engagement.

My brother was watching LLM-generated videos that were engineered specifically for this purpose; a few days ago I called him out on all the negativity in the videos he was watching, he got angry and started searching through the recommendations for anything positive to watch and only found celebrity videos.

Two days later, all the negative GenBS videos were gone and he was watching a narrated science video,
