I just voted for opportunity.

I hope everyone got their registration in and that you vote.

Good job, I’ve also voted! Make sure you vote everyone, voting gives you the right to complain about the government for the next 3 years.

    I just voted for opportunity.

I think rules about social media and voting are only for actual election day, not the early voting period, right?

      Correct.

And only for party members; there are no restriction on the general public saying who they voted for. I was wrong, it is for everyone. Don’t advertise on election day, before is fine.

No one is allowed to campaign for anyone. There are no exceptions for non-party members.

This is what I can find: https://elections.nz/guidance-and-rules/advertising-and-campaigning/social-media

Using social media on election day

On election day additional restrictions apply when you’re posting on social media.

From midnight before election day until 7pm on election day, you can’t post or share any content that’s likely to - or is intended to - influence someone’s candidate vote or party vote.

Paid online election advertising is prohibited on election day.

The election day rules make no exemption for the expression of personal political views online.

        In another section:

On election day you can remind people to get out and vote, and even tell them that you’ve just voted – but you should take care not to post anything that encourages other voters to vote (or not to vote) for a particular candidate or party.

I believe I’d be covered by this, as all said was what I did, not what you should do.

You will likely achieve a similar outcome by just telling people who might have forgotten to “get out and vote”. You seem to want change and most “people that always vote” do not want change. All you need to do is convince more people to vote and it is likely that those voters will align with your goals.

It reminds me of the Rock the Vote campaign. Just activate the sleeping voters. Get change.

That is kind. I’ll take it.

Either way, if I remove the reference to who I voted for before election day it will be all good.

The first version read really negatively but a /s just didn’t fit, so I tried to make it a little more neutral

And I think there’s an argument that we do!

The same page I linked says:

We recommend you don’t use profile pictures, filters, or frames that support a candidate or party, to avoid the risk of committing an offence if you post using the picture or frame on election day. Photos, filters and frames saying you’ve voted or which encourage others to vote are fine.

I feel like saying who you voted for could fit into the same sort of offence if you caught the enforcer (Police?) on a bad day.

                From the elections website

Election advertising does not have to be removed from social media as long as:

                • it was published before election day
                • it’s only made available to people who voluntarily access it, and
                • no advertisements promoting the page or site are published on election day
                • you don’t repost the material on election day, even if the information was posted before election day.

So what I posted looks fine; as long as I don’t repost or link to it on election day

I wonder how this works if we are still actively discussing this on election day; does that count as “reposting/linking”?

I would guess it’s fine so long as the new content being added doesn’t endorse anyone. I don’t see it as any different to replying to an older facebook post.
