The point of banning phones in schools was eliminating the distraction and increasing student engagement, not fixing their mental health.
Theyre still addicted to the square the minute they get out of school, obviously. So thats bad for their mental health. Schoolkids before smartphones also didnt exactly have the best mental health anyways, so Im not sure why its considered an important metric.
What matters is whether or not banning the phones increased the amount kids are actually learning and focusing on education and socialization. Their mental health is largely irrelevant in that discussion
Because students are mostly listening to the teacher, not using smartphones in the school anyway.
Some people just love bans.I guess it’s just crappy teachers who bring education down then.
Or, overcrowded underfunded school systems who have change curriculums in order to make education fail because it puts more money in the pockets or specific individuals.
Lots of things contribute to the poor mental health of the general population including students. Phones are just the newest scapegoat and instead of actually regulating what they can show all of us, we’re pretending if we just stop kids from viewing those things it’ll be better. Meanwhile the same shit being posted all over social media is present in all media including ads, television, and movies.
This crap doesn’t have to be in schools to have a detrimental effect.
That is an additional problem
