We counted eight anime line by line. In Frieren, the 500 most common words give you 85.9% coverage but only 38.4% of the lines.

    I’ve noticed this as well. I have been learning Japanese for about 2 years at this point (sometimes more, sometimes less serious), and I have a really hard time understanding anything that is not targeted at children. Mostly because it’s too fast and I don’t know the words.
