  • Hmmm… possibly. My 2016 MacBook Pro was a real piece of shit. the only Apple product I ever owned that was just made badly. I mean— I had it for 10 years, but that fucker was broken 15 ways from Sunday. Keyboard, trackpad, battery, all non-functional within a year or two. The rest worked fine for a decade tho, until one day - poof! It just died. (technically, last October.)

I replaced it with a 16” MacBook Pro M4 Pro. I’m very happy with that.

    Thank goodness for cloud backups

  • Well— Obduction came out in 2016 and Firmament in 2023, both from Cyan Worlds, the original creators of the Myst series of games and made to very much resemble them in storyline and gameplay style. But both games took several years to independently fund and create. Perhaps they feel It’s unlikely they’d be able to replicate that process again?

So it’s not that they don’t want to, it’s very likely that the fundraising process wasn’t sustainable, and they don’t believe they can raise enough money to do it again. Maybe

Both games are pretty good though, however, I’m not really sure how big an audience there is for that style of game anymore. Maybe I’m wrong?

From what I understood from the discussions, cyan world Studios complained that no big game studio wanted to give them any kind of budget to create another Myst game. So they had to independently fund it themselves, which was a long and arduous process. They certainly wanted to make more, they just had a lot of trouble getting sponsorship from a game company. also, I think there may be licensing issues with the title, so they may not be able to make another one on their own.

Edit: IIRC, that was the main issue: some big game studio owns the IP to Myst and refuse to make more, and that’s why Cyan Worlds can’t make another one, and why they decided to make very Myst-like independent titles instead. It’s been several years since I was reading discussions about this, so I may have some details slightly wrong.
