US chicken companies pioneered restricting sleep to keep birds eating around the clock.

A new study (Li et al., 2026) recommends giving chickens just 2 hours of darkness nightly to maximize the time they spend eating. The study and photo are Chinese.

We know chickens have far better hapiness with 7–8 hours of darkness to sleep.

But they eat more when they are sleep restricted.

What happens to hens when their production slows down? The eggs that are fertilised to replace the hens who die, what happens to the male chicks? Are these chickens frankenchickens who produce 1-2 eggs a day, or are they more natural chickens who will produce an egg once a month or so? because laying so many eggs is brutal on their bodies. Since you seem like you’re a woman with name like Jessica, imagine cycling everyday for your entire life. That’s what these frankenchooks have to deal with.
