I used to donate, but unfortunately I work with heavy machinery every day so I can’t donate unless I take time off work
just donated thanks to this post - cheers for the PSA
@zero_gravitas they don’t want my blood. I went back as normal a few years ago, but although I’ve been a registered donor since I was 18, they no longer want AB+ blood from women over 55 (I think that was the age). They’ll take your plasma gladly, but not your blood. It would have been nice if they’d told me that before I trekked in that day. Mobile units can’t do plasma donations. So now it’s a 4 bus return trip which I try and do at least once a year.
#AB #Blood #Plasma #CanberraGenuine question if anyone knows: Do they tell you your blood type if you donate?
Also, less important, do you get a lollipop? After getting my life sap drained I’d need the sugar.
Yes, I realise I could just ask them. This is easier and better as the answer reaches more than little old me
Yes they tell you.
Yes you get as much snacks as you like afterwards, and a drink during if you like. (I don’t recall last time if there were lollipops)
Thanks for that, and thanks for no judging. I’ll book in 👍
No probs :)
I can confirm there’s sugary snacks available. I didn’t see any lollipops, but they had Mentos, Freddo, Caramello Koalas, various little packaged slices, gluten-free banana bread, pretzels, chips, crackers and cheese, juice, milkshakes, party pies and sausage rolls (including vegan options). You should be able to find something to your liking!

Wow that’s a lot. Thanks for the info!
I’ve booked in for Monday 👍
Might as well make myself useful and book an appointment for next week or so…
