The only thing AI is actually good at is convincing unreflective centrists that humans are no longer very valuable, this works on the very humans you are aiming at devaluing too as is evident in this case.

Getting high on their own supply? It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see how it plays out.

Each scam is dumber than the last. Wall Street and the smart market hypothesis, crypto, “AI”… what’s the next grift?

    Brought to you by Claude

There’s an important distinction here. Anthropic isn’t actually spending more cash on AI than salaries. It’s valuing its internal AI consumption at retail prices.

TFA doesn’t address which retail prices. API or package plans. The value varies quite a lot.

Only the plans as far as I know and those are getting nerfed. Anthropic upgraded their 20x Max plan to Ultra (10x) for the same price as before and ClosedAI now has a 500 dollar plan which I bet is about as much usage as the 200 dollar plan used to be

Lots of companies spend more on operations costs than they do on employee salaries.

By itself that isn’t necessarily a reason to think Anthropic sucks as a company. There are so many others before it.

But do they spend it on their own product? That, to me, seems to be the kicker.
