Yeah the idea that the only reason to “become” (heavy quotation marks here) would obviously be so that one can be a predator is either rooted in deep trauma or self projection. It just seems impossible to them that people might just be like this.
I think I was 11 or 12 when I heard a gay man say “how does anyone think this is a choice? Why would I choose a life that makes me more likely to be the victim of violence and oppression?” and I thought “that’s a good point, I guess it’s not a choice then.” I apply the same logic to trans folks. It’s not easy to transition, the only reason to do it would be because what is outside doesn’t match what is inside. Same reason I exercise, which is harder than watching Netflix on the couch but miles easier than transitioning.
