I’m a cis man, I used to work in a clothing store where putting out stock of bras and panties and other undergarments was part of my job. You know, like the countless other cis men in the world who work in stores that sell womens underwear. Does she have an issue with that?

Yeah the idea that the only reason to “become” (heavy quotation marks here) would obviously be so that one can be a predator is either rooted in deep trauma or self projection. It just seems impossible to them that people might just be like this.
I think I was 11 or 12 when I heard a gay man say “how does anyone think this is a choice? Why would I choose a life that makes me more likely to be the victim of violence and oppression?” and I thought “that’s a good point, I guess it’s not a choice then.” I apply the same logic to trans folks. It’s not easy to transition, the only reason to do it would be because what is outside doesn’t match what is inside. Same reason I exercise, which is harder than watching Netflix on the couch but miles easier than transitioning.
They’ve moved from comparing us to y’all and past the adding in the assumption of nefariousness. We’re now in the “dangerous by way of mere presence” category
Not even just presence. The mere thought of our existence is a threat. Joanne seems absolutely terrified that any random woman she sees has even the remotest chance of being a cis passing trans woman and therefore a sexual assault of her waiting to happen. Welcome to a lot of our history and the reality for many of our siblings around the world. It’s not ok, and the idea of it is personally revolting to me as a lesbian. But you survive however it takes.
I dream of a world in which that history is fully past, where trans people selling their bodies all do it freely of their own volition and not because its the only work they can find or because they’ve been taught that that’s the only value they have or the only they can be made to feel desirable.
What about me? I’m a cis male but 240 lbs and probably about a B cup. Maybe she’d be ok with that? I’m not trans!

I was about to ask exactly this. What do you think the odds are on that “trans” employee just being a cis woman that’s just like… Kind of butch? I can’t tell you how often transphobes have harassed her for “being in the wrong bathroom” because she’s 5’10" (~178cm) with an undercut and wide shoulders.
