Yeah, I’m embarrassed - but more about our government and multiple iterations of it having completely shortsighted approaches to just about everything
i get why they would want to upgrade helicopters, but why would anyone want to embarrass defence planes?!
We’re going to embarrass the Australian defence planes.
Just fly those new helicopters right to Canberra.
It’s cute when they blush
When they
activate afterburnersblush I blush.I assure you, none of our planes are cool enough to have afterburners.
Money that could be spent actually improving the lives of the people of this country.
We’ve had enemy vessels in our waters in the past, the Germans sunk multiple vessels in our waters during the war, and the way things are going, I can see similar shenanigans happening again.
But if that is the case, a couple of new helicopters isn’t going to help. Any potential invader that wants to take NZ is likely going to have a much stronger force than we can muster. That’s why we traditionally have relied on our allies for military strength.
And you think these helicopters and planes will be able to fight the germans when they attack us?
I’m sure there’s a mention in flight of the conchords that NZ’s tanks are just donated old UK planes that don’t fly anymore.
I wonder how many inter-islanders we could buy
The boats were only going to be $550 million each.
Three billion would probably have gotten two boats, and one terminal they can actually park at.
Which is a problem, as you need two.
It was $550 million for both ferries, not each
You’re right, that was the whole contract.
Which makes it even more impressive the project was set to be more than a billion over the original estimate.
Idk, it sounded like there were problems with the port side of things but you can’t really gauge whether the costs are justified based on how much the ferries were going to be. They go with each other but they’re not the same type of project.
Anyway, instead of trying to address any of that they just cancelled it ideologically because labour, and they’ve wasted a tonne of money for nothing.
They’ve done this right across govt, inherited an economy with some challenges and deliberately nosedived it into the ground.
We may need some new planes and shit but the money they’re putting in looks absolutely galling compared to how they’ve wrecked everything else.
Seahawks and A320 series jets, both great choices.
The Seahawk is from the same family as the Black Hawk, an aircraft type operated all around the world, and the A321 is part of a family of jets operated by airlines globally, probably thousands in operation around the globe.
Both aircraft types are very popular, and operated by our allies, meaning manufacturer support should continue for decades into the future.
I think that, long term, this will represent a cost saving over trying to keep the ageing aircraft we currently have in service.
Oh no, embarrassing.
Grow up.
