This is so fucked up. No one who voted for this thought this through.
This requires every girl looking to play sports to have their genitals examined. Just the girls. Boys are not subject to this humiliation.
This will lead to sexual assaults.
And every girl that has to endure this humiliating examination will think to themselves “trans people did this.” It’s all in service of creating segregated spaces for TERF politics to breed.
I don’t believe this ad ever ran in Washington state. I so so so wish it had.
“And every girl that has to endure this humiliating examination will think to themselves “trans people did this.””
Nah, kids are smarter than that and it’s pretty damn clear who’s responsible. If I’m trying to predict their thoughts it’d be something more along the lines of “release the Epstein files”
The “male” part of the initiative is the part that just shows how sexist it is. Trans girls can’t play with cis girls, but trans boys are good to play with cis boys. It’s not even unique to Washington. Another person I know from another state entirely has a similar outcome for their trans students in sports. Trans girls are prohibited; trans boys face no issues. I hope a trans boy comes out and is the absolute best on his team. I need to see heads rolling after that.
This will lead to sexual assaults.
This basically requires sexual assaults.
The race hasn’t been called yet. There still remains about 46% of King County’s ballots to be counted, and they lead in the rejection category, not to mention that King County is by far the highest population county. It certainly doesn’t look (or feel) good though.
I suggest changing your title to reflect the fact that the votes are only 60% counted on I-638.
Your post gave me hope but after looking at the secretary of state election results, I don’t think its realistic. :/
- Votes yes: 1,119,192
- Votes no: 852,539
- Votes left to count: 94,000
It seems like king county had low voter turn out overall. Only a third of king county appears to have voted.
I hope I am misinterpreting the data, or that it is flawed in someway. Fuck I hope you’re right, I just don’t think so.
I got my numbers from AP, so I’m not sure where their data comes from. I believe their website said they estimated that only 60% of the ballots had been counted for I-638 (statewide—King County’s was at 54%). But regardless, it still looks very bad, even if there’s a lot of uncounted King County voters let to be tallied.
My hope is that if it passes, it is struck down as a violation of the Washington State Constitution, or the Washington Law Against Discrimination by the courts. The Seattle Times has a good article on how that may potentially happen
That’s disgusting. I cant imagine being so obsessed with other people’s, let alone kids genitals.
But they block legislation that will allow rape victims to sue their assailants.
Protecting woman has nothing to do with it.
They just want you to hate an outgroup.
Apparently, rape is totally okay with Americans. You can grab them by the pussy :) /s
I imagine/hope this will be held up by legal challenges until logic can prevail.
If Washington can hold up $30 car registration with legal challenges*, then they’d better be able to hold this up with legal challenges, too.
*Washington has the most expensive vehicle registration fees in the entire country, bar none. Years ago, voters overwhelmingly voted for an initiative to cap vehicle registration fees at $30 total. But as of now, it’s still held up in the courts, and we still have the most expensive vehicle registration fees in the country. (It’s a tax that hits the working poor the hardest – not only are the working poor, most of whom need a car to commute, the least able to afford the exorbitant fees, poor people are more likely to be using old, worn out cars that need to be replaced more often, leading to working poor people needing to pay these fees more often than well-off people who can afford a more reliable car.)
Thr constitution only allows a bill to have one subject which must be the title. The $30 car tabs initiative was not just $30 car tabs but also cuts to transit funding and other changes in the budget. Those are different subjects; different questions that must be asked separately.
To be constitutional it would have needed to be reduced to one subject, or split into several different initiatives. That law was blocked for procedural reasons, not for its merits.
I don’t think this could be can be blocked for the same reason.
“But no income tax” oh fuck off. I hope it gets sorted soon, I don’t miss registering in Washington when I lived there.
Anyone who tries “inspecting” my kids genitals is going to need help recognizing their own pretty quick.
Arizona in exactly the same boat with Prop 318. It’s hard to be happy about any of the results last night when you see this kind hate and ignorance alongside it.
We won the battle but the war rages on. We have to keep standing up for our people, don’t give up.
We need better hate crime laws.
I’m so disappointed in my upstairs neighbor state. We’re better than this in the Pacific northwest. Wtf is wrong with people? I don’t have a school age girl, but if I did, there would be no examinations happening. Either she’d play outside of school or not play at all, can’t take that kind of risk. It’s crazy to me that so many people are willing to not only take that risk with their girls, but use it to pick on trans kids that are only trying to exist, most of them are suicidal anyway. That makes you feel good, you feel it’s right to pick on little kids? Jfc what a goddamn embarrassment these people are.
